What is a Cronut? I had never heard of this delicious concoction until Dilano Taylor was asked what his plans were while in NYC. I was informed that a cronut is a croissant-donut pastry, exactly what I’d expect a fighter deep in fight camp to be looking forward to.

"Too Blessed To Be Stressed"

On November 25th, Dilano Taylor will be fighting Sadibou Sy for the 2022 PFL Welterweight Finals. This year has been a bit of a Cinderella story for Taylor, leaving him “Too blessed to feel stressed.”  Starting out in the PFL Challenger Series and ending with a $1 Million Finals Fight, Taylor claims there was “no pressure to begin with.” He praises PFL’s structure because they “force you to gain experience and grow.” During this season Dilano and his opponent Sy both secured wins over UFC star, Rory MacDonald. While Sy secured a decision win to move him further into the tournament, Dilano secured an impressive TKO at the end of Round 1. When speaking on what he expects to happen during the finals fight, he kept it simple by saying “You never know,” and goes on to explain that no matter how much footage you watch, it is irrelevant. He is a new fighter every fight, he expects his opponent to be as well. He predicted this fight to be “Fight of The Night.”

When I spoke to Dilano about how he deals with the mental aspect of the sport, he stated that he likes to take one day a week to himself. To just be with his family and do what he enjoys, a nice little break from the stressors that come with fight camp. One of the most important aspects is controlling his environment, making sure he keeps good people around him to keep his head right. He went on to speak about how important spirituality is in his daily life. He meditates to “turn off his brain.” Dilano has always had an “unshakable will,” which I believe has played a huge part in this Cinderella story. His “why” is simple, sweet, and clear. Providing for his family and proving to himself how great he can be. He feels “blessed to be that guy.”

"Take the risk. Take the opportunity. Prove it to yourself."

Dilano was able to quit his job at Starbucks and pursue fighting full time. He calls it a “care-free” lifestyle, he gets to live his dream while providing for his family. Dilano’s advice when it comes to anyone chasing their dreams is simple, “Take the risk. Take the opportunity. Prove it to yourself.”

This fight has been predicted as Fight of The Night by both opponents. To watch the fight, tune in to ESPN+ at 6 p.m. ET, then move to ESPN+ PPV starting at 8. The event will be hosted at Madison Square Garden in NYC, but your tickets online.
